Permanent direct part marking delivers item-level traceability that facilitates production automation, inventory management, batch control, quality control/defect containment and error-proofing. SIC Marking develops traceability systems for automotive components including motor parts, interior plastics items, exhaust systems, steel frame (VIN Marking), gearbox parts, tires,… SIC Marking is involved in a vast marking projects for car manufacturers (namely Chrysler, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, Samsung, Mitsubishi…) and for automotive suppliers (Bosch, Delphi,…).
Case History #1 : laser application
- Customer needs

- Need to integrate: a laser head into a working station equipped with a vision system for verification. The system is composed of two lasers & cameras stations.
- Loading and unloading is done by a robotic arm. Information on the code contents are sent by the plant PLC.
- The station designed to mark and verify a Datamatrix code.
- A good quality of marking is required to ensure reading and respect of IAQG 16002 standards.
- Marking:
The marking is done by two laser heads and verified by cameras.
- Advantages:
Custom software to manage both common positions.
Productivity: The parts are brought into the station automatically.
With each mark verification, a report is published and automatically archived as a .pdf file.

Case History #2 : laser application
- Customer needs :

- To track engine parts (rods), the client needs to integrate several laser heads in a dedicated marking station.
- Demands high quality marks from a custom solution.
- Marking solution:
The laser i103l-g has been selected for its ease of integration, compact size and performance. Selection and assembling of the laser components (source, optical ...) guarantee quality and optimal execution speed.
- Advantages:
The choice of a marking station with four lasers allows productivity advantages by ensuring Data Matrix code markings. Thanks to traceability, even in challenging environments, verification is possible.
.
Case history #3 : dot peen application
- Customer needs:

- In order to make traceable engine parts (4 types), the client must include a new dot peen head on an existing post to produce. A light mark and a Data Matrix code on the crankshaft case. These parts have high temperatures and are heavy to load.
- Requires a good marking quality with a custom solution.
- To minimize risk of stopping the production line, the solution was selected to keep functionality after the change in crank case height of 0.5m.
- Marking solution:
The i61V has been selected for its ease of integration, compact size and ability to verify the data matrix associated with the onboard camera.
The solution includes a removable enclosure -for maintenance- and a back-
up solution. (P62 gun with a custom face plate).
- Advantages:
The "all-in-one" station can proceed to the part marking, but also to the Data Matrix code verification to ensure traceability and even under harsh conditions.
The enclosure is equipped with a forced air system to protect the system mechanics from vapors and dust.

Case history #4 : scribing application (VIN Marking)
- Customer needs:

To mark automatically with one system a VIN number on 3 different vehicle frames with 2 marking areas, and 2 different locations. As no operator is dedicated to this station, it must include a camera-based control system.
Marking area: passenger floor
- Technology:
Marking: i113s scribing marking head with e8 controller
Vision system: “Vision Box i4000v”
Custom mechanical system
- Reading and Verification :
The reading area is illuminated and the picture of the mark is captured by the software
Data analysis / Communication
Presence control, position and form of the last character. In case of drift, alert is given by a maintenance operation.
